The Chainsmokers are back at Top40 after a little break and are starting right where they left us and that’s with another big radio hit. “High” (Disruptor/Columbia) is the single that is setting the format on fire and it’s one of their best to date. Radio is lucky to have them back where they belong. Imagine Dragons have a strong new entry at the format & make no mistake about that. The single “Enemy” (KidinaKorner/Interscope) taken from the League Of Legends proves to us once again why they are one of the best bands out in radio these days. With a project this big you can only imagine how high this one will go.
Tiesto has joined forces with Ava Max to bring us a real gem during this first quarter. “The Motto” (Atlantic) is the jam that I’m talking about and it’s getting a big response from our panel of music and program directors. This one you need to pay very special attention to. Altego is taking Britney Spears & Ginuwine out for a spin. It’s a take on “Toxic” (RCA) and it’s turned out to be a nice pairing. We’ll see how it all works out in the coming weeks but so far so very good for this re-boot of sorts.
Iann Dior is making some pretty big moves and the Top40 format. “Let You” (Capitol) is the single that is really pulling in some rather impressive numbers. I think you might find this one to your immediate liking. Daisy The Great & AJR are quiet the combination. The single “Record Player” (S-Curve/Hollywood) captures the very best sounds around and what a solid track this is indeed. Radio is also loving and spinning the new Anitta by leaps and bounds. “Boys Don’t Cry” (Warner) is the single that is making pure magic from coast to coast. It’s also pulling in a huge response out there at radio and that’s a solid sign.
Latto is about as big as they come these days at Top40. “Big Energy” (RCA) is just that and what a powerful track for our first quarter at radio. Give this a few spins and you will know exactly what the buzz is all about. Emmy Meli is making a name at the format and it’s been quite remarkable to see. “I Am Woman” (Disruptor/Arista) is a solid production from start to finish and there is no wonder as to why the chart numbers for this song are so high. Adele is back with the follow-up to her monster “Easy On Me”. “Oh My God” (Columbia) is not as strong as the first single but is doing well in regards to the shoes it has to fill. We just hope that she can get back to the live performances.
Newcomer Gayle is as hot as they come. This Nashville pop artist is taking the music world by storm as her “abcdefu” (Atlantic) moves past the pack. There is no doubt that she is off to a great start of what appears to be a huge recording career. Let’s see how she continues to evolve and hope that she is not just a one hit wonder. The Swedish House Mafia & The Weeknd keep moving up to higher ground and that should be of no surprise. “Moth To A Flame” (Republic) is the jam that has been receiving top spin action and music critic praise. It’s a solid mix from quite the paring that just screams hit.
That Bruno Mars pairing that finds him with A. Paak & Silk Sonic has turned out to become something magical. “Smokin’ Out The Window” (Aftermath/Atlantic) is a bit of a throwback but has such charm that you can’t put it down. The pairing of Acraze & Cherish has turned out to be a thing of magic and beauty. “Do It To It” (Virgin) is the single that spares to expense with a trilling and powerful production. Give it a real shot and see.
Jamie Alimorad appears to be well on the way to another strong single. The track “Give A Little Lovin’” (Knothole) is breaking fast and furious from Top40 to Hot AC and there is no surprise as it’s one of the strongest indie singles out there. Beta Youth is also pulling in some rather powerful numbers. “One Of A Kind” (Beta Youth) is the single that is making them bigger than life. It came out of the box swinging and has not disappointed one bit. It might be time to make Beta Youth part of the program.
A big congrats to all of our New Music Award nominees! Now it’s time to pick up the votes and move them from nominees to winners. Best of luck to all of them.
